Qualifications, Experience and Training
I am a registered member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy and have been in private practice since 1998, while at times also being employed as a drugs counsellor, a group facilitator, a trainer and a mental health worker.
Besides extensive one-to-one work, I have had particular experience in developing and running training programmes for professionals working in Social Care, facilitating a support group for those having experienced sexual abuse, and designing and leading confidence and self-esteem raising programmes for patients of a local Community Mental Health Team.
I am especially interested in the developmental and attachment theories and I understand the therapeutic relationship as being a space in which fixated feelings, beliefs and behaviours of the 'there-and-then' can be loosened in order to bring about increased spontaneity and contactfulness in the 'here-and-now'. Object Relations Theory, Relational Transactional Analysis and Integrative Psychotherapy are the main 'schools' that underpin my work.
